Suddenly and without much fanfare, “Imortal,” the horror-drama series starring together for the first time Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz, broke on air Oct. 4 on ABS-CBN.
Without as much as the obligatory media event that accompanies every launch, “Imortal” gathered great interest among viewers, including this Moviegoer. Its stars are topnotch, its director, Chito Roño well admired for his body of work, and the entire production itself promising.
“Imortal’s” first episode, with its eerie atmosphere and smoke-screened scenes, properly set the tone of the drama series combining the tried and tested elements of traditional and contemporary horror.
The allusion to the modern-day “Twilight” film franchise is all over the story, highlighting a romance between a vampire and a human, at least in the back story between the characters played by Jomari Yllana and Lara Quigaman, the would-be parents of John Lloyd Cruz’s character.
JLC himself would soon fall in love and carry on with a wolf, played by “Lobo” star, Angel Locsin, whose character is scheduled to break into the series this week.
